The Dave Clark Five
Though I liked their music, the Beatles didn’t excite me as they did many of their fans. It was the Dave Clark 5 that had me totally captivated. The first time I saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show, I knew instantly that I wanted to do what they were doing. I’d never seen anyone having that much fun playing music.
In January 1964 the Dave Clark 5 had their first UK top ten single, "Glad All Over", which knocked the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the UK Singles Chart. The media immediately turned that moment into a rivalry between the Beatles and the Dave Clark 5. Music fans debated the issue for months.
Ken Kesey
Ken Kesey's hideaway in La Honda attracted an eccentric group of artists, musicians and writers.
Buick Electra 255
This is my dad’s Buick Electra, a car he really liked. Maybe it was the signature front “ventiports” that he found appealing.
Our New Beach House
This was our first weekend at our new beach house in Rio Del Mar. My dad and I did a lot of fishing off the Santa Cruz pier and off of the Cement Boat pier in Seacliff. My dad especially enjoyed surf fishing on the beach in front of our house. I think those times were some of his most serene moments.
